Sound of Silence

I love this song...
An old Simon and Garfunkel...

Hello darkness, my old friend,
I’ve come to talk with you again,
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence.

In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone,
neath the halo of a street lamp,
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of
A neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence.

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more.
People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence.

Fools said I, you do not know
Silence like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach you.
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed
In the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon God they made.
And the sign flashed its warning,
In the words that it was forming.
And the sign said, the words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls.
And whispered in the sounds of silence.

Dreamer -- goyish music?! Ah shandeh! I never..! :P

That was really good... not sure I get it all but I feel the depth.

Variations did a take on this, but I never heard the original and this is waaaay better.

Thanks for posting the lyrics.

One of the greatest songs ever written. Bas Melech, what is wrong with this song?
I have a great rendition of this song preformed by Gregorian Masters of Chant, it is truly amazing, with like 15 voices.

Art Garfunkel had a siddur Shilo of his from his childhood in Yeshiva sell on Ebay about 6 years ago. https://www.blogger.com/captcha?type=IMAGE&captchaKey=19ditc43u6vql

I am hard pressed to call this Goyish Music, it is Jewish Preformers, and the lyrics are just fine. Besides, even if it was Goyish, I don't understand the Issur in this case, unless of course you hold second sfira.

I was mostly teasing.
I happen to love this song.
Probably wouldn't have listened to it if Dreamer hadn't posted it, though.
Apologies if anyone was offended by my condemnation.
Dreamer stays on the BasMelech Blogroll!
Just don't do anything too much more drastic, OK?
