Aufruf Bags

Here I am...

Filling little bags with nuts...
And others with mints...
Tying ribbons...
Stuffing bags...
Typing schedules...
Buying mini mouthwash...
And Tums...
And jelly snacks...
Searching for rainhats...
Popping Motrin...

Boy do I feel spiritual...

Shabbos Chicken (or none)

I wanted to make Shabbos
Planned the entire meal
Wrote up a list of things to buy
'Twasn't a big deal

I drove out to the grocery
And began to play my part
Veggies, fish and croutons
Made their way into my cart

Then over to the meat fridge
I gently wheeled my stuff
To purchase Shabbos chickens
(For Yom Tov just wasn't enough)

I looked to the left and to the right
I blinked and rubbed my eyes
The fridge was rather empty
Much to my surprise

I quickly called my sis in law
To ask if she could buy
A chicken for my Shabbos tish
She said that she would try

She called me minutes later
Confusion in her voice
No chickens in the entire town
This week, meat's the choice

So steak was duly purchased
As this past week's Shabbos fare
I guess we must remember
To stock up early next year!

Trip for One

The children gather 'round the cage
Their eyes are filled with glee
They wait there with their parents
Chattering incessantly

"Mommy, what do monkeys eat?"
He questions without end
But Mommy's much too busy now
She's chatting with a friend

"Daddy, when's the keeper coming?"
She hesitantly asks
But Daddy's on his cellphone
It's a more important task

The children line up one by one
They wait impatiently
They're on line for the Ferris Wheel
As happy as can be

And Daddy raises Little One
Places him upon the seat
His Little Boy's not smiling
Though the moment should be sweet

'Cuz Daddy's on his Bluetooth
And Mom's too scared to ride
And as the ride goes up, up, up
Little Boy looks at his side

And all he sees are Daddies
And Mommies on the phone
The forgot the very reason
They didn't stay at home

This holiday's one of happiness
But it's not so for some
So, dear mommies and daddies
Spend REAL time with your little ones.

Any ideas for Yom Tov menus?
I'd love to try something new...

Used to...

When you're used to teaching
A desk job's uninviting
When you're used to speaking
A computer's not exciting
When you're used to teenagers
Adults seem quite the bore
When you're used to insanity
Silence is a chore
When you're used to one thing
Another's difficult to try
When you're trying to make money
You really don't ask why...
