Different

Different foods.
Different jokes.
Different decor.
Defferent shul.
Different tastes.
Different mannerisms.
Different faces.
Different friends.
Different siblings.
Different schedule.
Different discussions.
Different nephews.
Different problems.
Different surroundings.

Things are so different
When you're at the in-laws.

Acting The Part

The curtains have parted
The show has begun
And there's little old me on the stage

And I say my line
Just the very first one
But it seems that I'm on the wrong page

The audience snickers
It's their bit of fun
As I start to feel half my age

When another actor
Whose part's almost done
Spouts advice with the ease of a sage

And he tells me I must
Desist to run
And slowly walk into my cage

Act the same as the next
Forget every pun
Dress along with the ton
Expect to have fun
Wear your hair in a bun
Never use a gun
Stay out of the sun
And that nobody's won
On this stage.

Responsibility

I don't think many kids (or adults!) nowadays know what it means to take responsibilty for their actions. They think that if they do something wrong, people should and will automatically forgive them, no matter how grave the sin. They think that if they say "I'm sorry" then they shouldn't have to face the consequences.

You should see the look of surprise on my students' faces when I tell them that I accept their apologies for their chutzpah, but they still have to sit detention. It's almost like they never heard of such a thing; that once they said the magic words, all's forgotten.

Sorry, kiddos, but that's not the way life works. You lose a million dollars: no matter how many times you apologize, the money ain't comin back.

Learn to take responsibilty, own up to your faults, and not expect things to magically disappear...

Thanks!

Thank you for the patience
And for the endless care
Thank you for the emails
To let me know you're there
Thank you for the messages
Reminding me to write
Thanks for the encouragement
At any time of night
Thanks for the chats
and for the comments
and for the endless laughs
And I'm sorry things ain't regular
Since I found my better half...

Have a great Shabbos!
